HANDOG NI MARCELO: STANDING UNSWERVINGLY FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL
“A DeMolay stands unswervingly for the public school”. This is one of the 14 Code of Ethics a DeMolay must live by.
True to the teachings of the Order that championship of the public school is a cardinal tenet of being a DeMolay, members of Marcelo H. Del Pilar Chapter Order of DeMolay from Malolos, Bulacan are putting these hallowed words into action.
Marcelo H. Del Pilar Chapter Order of DeMolay recently launched the project Handog Ni Marcelo: Standing Unswervingly For The Public School. This is a fundraising drive intended to raise necessary funds for marginalized public school students of Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School in Malolos, who are struggling with the new online format of schooling due to the ongoing pandemic.
Public schools are soon to open, for the new academic year, amidst the pandemic. However, everyone is still ill equipped or under equipped for the new online format of instructions. The most affected segment are the students, more so, the ones from the public schools.
These problems range from the lack of budget for mobile loads for internet data connection, to the lack of funds to procure a mobile gadget such as a phone or a tablet necessary for online schooling.
Through Handog Ni Marcelo, the members of Marcelo H. Del Pilar Chapter hopes to alleviate the difficulties experienced by the affected public school students of Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School, specially in attending to their school obligations due to the non-availability of the needed budget for internet connectivity. The monies raised through this project hopes to ease the burden of the said marginalized high school students, particularly those severely affected by the effects of the pandemic.
A minimum financial donation of P300 pesos can and will subsidize a total of three weeks of online classes connectivity for a single student beneficiary. The wish of the Handog Ni Marcelo project is that they be able to guarantee and underwrite the online studies of as many student beneficiaries as possible for the longest possible period.
Handog Ni Marcelo: Standing Unswervingly For The Public School, likewise, gives a donor the option to adopt a student. By adopting a student, the donor agrees to sponsor the needs of the student beneficiary and fund his/her online class requirements by donating P100 pesos a week for four months or until the culmination of classes.
The members of Marcelo H. Del Pilar are steadfast in their understanding, as DeMolays, that the public school system is integral in the attainment of intellectual liberty. Through this project they aim to remind every brethren of its duty and obligation, as a member of the Order, to hold the public school system to be the cradle of Filipino liberties.
