The recent installation ceremony of the Horace Mundy Chapter, under the auspices of DeMolay Canada, held on October 27, 2024, marked a significant moment in the organization’s history in Toronto. Angelo Balsomo, son of Cleo Balsomo, a Senior DeMolay from Leon Kilat Chapter No. 7, assumed the role of Master Councilor, showcasing the strong leadership and dedication within the DeMolay community. The ceremony was the culmination of meticulous planning, led by Cleo Balsomo, whose role on the Advisory Council was pivotal in orchestrating a successful event.
The Horace Mundy Chapter, primarily composed of the sons of Filipino immigrants, is experiencing a resurgence after a period of dormancy. This revival is largely credited to the Toronto 7-Candles DeMolay Alumni Chapter, an assembly of Senior DeMolays from the Supreme Council Order of DeMolay Philippines, now residing in Canada. This group demonstrates the enduring connections and support within the global DeMolay network. The Toronto 7-Candles DeMolay Alumni Chapter holds the distinction of being the first in Canada to receive an alumni charter from DeMolay Canada. It is currently under the leadership of Rey Faraon, PMC, Chevalier, a member of the Jose Abad Santos Chapter No. 1, serving as President. He is supported by Ervin Aspiras, LOH, a PMC of the James J. Wilson Chapter No. 21, who is serving as Secretary of the alumni chapter. The Board Members include Albert Asuncion (Feliciano Iñigo Chapter No. 11); Cleo Balsomo (Leon Kilat Chapter No. 7), Conrad Borres, PMC, Chevalier (Wadih C. Saab Chapter No. 16), Dennis Gerangco (Jose Abad Santos Chapter No. 1), and Owen Pedroso (Feliciano Iñigo Chapter No. 11).
The installation event was enriched by the poignant Flower Talk, delivered by Paul Limin, PMC of Mt. Samat Chapter No. 32, and the evocative Ceremony of Light, presented by Arlito Dulnuan from Far East Chapter No. 6. The collaborative efforts of the Filipino DeMolays, representing both the Toronto 7-Candles and DeMolay Canada, underscored the unity and shared purpose that characterizes the DeMolay experience. This event not only celebrated the induction of new leadership but also the cultural heritage and contributions of its members, reflecting the diverse and dynamic nature of the DeMolay fraternity.
The reactivation of the Horace Mundy Chapter signifies a forward momentum, promising a future of growth and continued legacy within the DeMolay community in Canada.
